Light Architecture- I think this picture is a good picture, because it shows light from the bottom of the building and on the top as well.

Patterns Architecture- This picture has patterns going on everywhere! thats why i picked this picture for pattern.

Angles and shapes Architecture- This Architecture is very abstract with different shapes and angles.

Surroundings Architecture- This architecture has white patterns covering all of the building that's why i picked this for surroundings.
Detailed architecture- This architecture has patterns, shapes, angels and pretty much all of the rules i just talked about that's why it is very detailed! It is a beautiful building.

Sports/Action

Alyssa Schukar 2006 student portfolio:
photographer- Alyssa Schukar
focus- sports
3 problems- pictures from distance, not enough strong singles, all photos the same
Likes: nice background, nice graphic
The portfolio was okay. The photos had good quality and lighting. I didn't like how they were all almost repeated.

Photographer- Nick Adams
focus- sports
3 problems- Too many children and pictures don't make sense.
The judges liked the lighting of the pictures and some of the angles the pictures were taken in.
This portfolio was not that good. I didn't like most of the pictures. They were not very good topics at all.

photographer name: Sam Adams
general focus of portfolio: bikes
list three problems that the judges note with the portfolio: to many soloets, photoshop to much, people should be doing something.
list two things the judges like: background shadows
what is your overall impression? what did you like or not like? It was ok. I did not like how on some photos it didnt tell me or the judges anything about the the picture.

photographer- jordan murph
general focus- sports/ stories
3 problems- pose action, no eye contact, to many photos
list two things the judges like: good composition, good light
Impression: It started really good the first two stories. I dislike how it started really impressing but then he lost it, the pictures werent as interesting.

Dustin Snipes:
The judges thought Dustin was creative and had good composition.
His strengths are that the pictures contained almost all the rules. I don't see weaknesses.

3. They went through all the photos that the children took and criticized then saying what they had to much of or to little of and what they could have done better. That's how they decided the winner.

part 2

1. The photos i agreed with the judges was the wave photo. There could have been more action in it that could have made it better.

Destruction in Japan blog

This picture makes me want to cry, because the emotions that are in the picture. The mother and daughter are suffering from the destruction in Japan. The composition is good and i like how you can see through the window.

This picture shows clearly how the water was moving in to the city. This picture looks terrifying to me. I like the lighting and the way the picture was taken.

This picture is so emotional! It shows a picture of a family that might not even be alive. The little kids that still had a long life ahead of them. I think the lighting could've been a little better and i like how the color blend in the picture.

Types of Magazine Covers

Cover types

1. Early Magazine Covers- Almost always paintings, very religious, high moral.
2. The poster Cover- One big picture, no border. small text, less text, the text doesn't interfere with the photo. The picture has to be really good or very recognizable. Disadvantages: the cover doesn't really help you to tell you what the magazine is about.
3. Pictures Married to type- The words help the photo, does not interfere with the picture.advantage: you can see the photo more. The words and the picture go together. Disadvantages: You don't know what else is in  there and there aren't many entry points into the magazine.
4. In the Forest of Words- Tons of text on the picture. Also lot's of colors, different font and sizes. Disadvantages: too many words, too much to look at, also covers your photos.

FAVORITE!

#9 Harpers Bazaar (September 1992)
Harpers Bazaar, which debuted in 1867 as Americas first fashion magazine, celebrated its 125th anniversary in 1992, and the September 1992 issue under legendary Editor-in-Chief Liz Tilberiss direction heralded one of the most dramatic magazine reinventions in history. Tilberis helped transform the magazine from an also-ran fashion magazine into the one of the most cutting-edge and experimental of the big fashion glossiesillustrated by the creative typeface and avant-garde image of Linda Evangelista on the September magazine cover.

Critique!

This portrait is very well done. The focus and the way the picture is centered is very well done. Also the way the person is posing and how it only shows like half of her body but mostly the head, which is good. One thing that the portrait is missing is the background. Maybe if it had a little color to it, it would really be an attention getter! I love the way the put her hand up as she was grabbing the letters when they are falling. The brightness of the photo is good and also the composition. Instead of the background being white, it could've been like faded or something like that but other than that this is a very good portrait/ magazine cover!

magazine cover intro

a)Yes i have taken happy Akins building.
b)yes i have.
c) Yes i did!
d) Yes i have taken portraits and self portraits photos with the cameras.

5 things to be thinking about when designing a magazine cover:

1. Familiar recognition from issue to issue (that’s the brand)

2. Emotionally irresistible (that’s the image’s appeal)

3. Arousing curiosity (that’s to pull the casual glancer in)

4. Intellectually stimulating, interesting (that’s to promise benefits)

5. Efficient, fast, easy to scan (that’s showing off the service)
